Dear Collective Kindred,
Since July of this year, the People’s Collective for Justice and Liberation has taken an intentional pause to steward the process of reflection after a year and a half of coming together to fight systemic oppression amidst the reemergence of Anti-Asian sentiment and violence during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our co-founders Greg Cendana and Dr. DJ Kuttin Kandi alongside grassroots co-conspirators across communities organized and continue to offer town halls, workshops, and campaigns to agitate for racial justice, solidarity, and liberation for Black, Indigenous, and people of color and have expanded a platform for Asians and Asian Americans to envision and practice what freedom can be from intention to action.
Since its inception, PC4JL’s growth has been a collective endeavor to demand justice and liberation for all oppressed peoples. It is with deep definitions of solidarity that our co-founders established roots for the movement to truly grow, imagine, and enact change - and it is with this same deep trust and love that Greg and Kandi are now stepping down from their leadership roles for the People’s Collective for Justice and Liberation.
For the last year and a half, our co-founders have brought together a family of liberatory communities and voices including PC4JL’s new leadership, five Co-Conveners who served on the Organizing Committee over the last year: Andrew Hong, inbabel bee uytiepo, Bobby Dalton Roy, Karen Villa, and Thavry Khun are excited to build upon their foundations for the pursuit of justice and liberation.
Greg and Kandi have always talked about the People's Collective for Justice and Liberation as being a true labor of love and are grateful to those who have joined us on this journey. With our five new Co-Conveners, affectionately referring to ourselves as the Co-Co's , PC4JL remains committed to radical, liberatory transformation to co-create a world that reclaims the dignity, self-determination, and humanity of all oppressed peoples. We will continue to move alongside our co-conspirators of critical thinkers, organizers, and cultural workers who uplift our communities with hope, joy, and healing in these challenging times. You’ll learn more about us in upcoming announcements, but here’s a short video for our beloved Dr. Kandi and Greg:
We are not free unless all Black, Indigenous, and people of color are free. Our fates remain connected as we continue to unravel the impact of racism, sexism, colonialism, ableism, homophobia, and transphobia amidst an ongoing public health and global climate crisis. As Greg and Kandi transition from leadership, we know this is not goodbye - they will always remain in the collective fight for Black, Indigenous, and people of color liberation. As PC4JL’s new Co-Conveners, we are honored and committed to be in deep partnership with you, our co-founders, and the liberatory communities who continue to build light together toward our collective freedom.
In Collective solidarity,
