Anti-Asian Racism: Solidarity Is Our Survival
Together, we will join Asian American organizers, and other people of color we are in community with to provide historical context of white supremacy cis heteropatriarchy, especially in the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and engage in meaningful dialogue on why anti-Asian racism continues to happen as well as provide solutions and action items including local groups and campaigns to support on the ground. The town hall will also offer moments for collective healing.

People's Collective for Justice and Liberation presents #FreedomFestival, an event to honor all forms of art to incite cultural organizing, demand systemic change and imagine new possibilities while we celebrate making it through a year of crises including a global health pandemic, the largest uprisings in defense of Black life and a volatile electoral cycle.
A Town Hall on Indigenous Rights, Sovereignty, and Self Determination
November is American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month, a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Indigenous People. As we learned from Dr. Connie Wun of AAPI Women Lead, we understand anti-Asian racism is made possible by anti-Blackness and anti-Indigeneity. In our effort to advance justice and liberation, we must center Indigenous rights, sovereignty and self determination.
Town Hall on Elections & Electoral Justice
How do we speak truth to power? What is the importance of the elections in November for our everyday lives and local communities? What are organizations and folks doing to mobilize and be the democracy we deserve? As grassroots activists and political strategists, panelists will share about the work to inspire, involve, and lead causes and campaigns at the center of our lives and communities. This town hall will highlight the collective power of Black, Indigenous, and people of color’s political history, empowerment, and solidarity.
Town Hall on Youth Organizing and Justice: In Our Homes, Schools and Communities
Young people have long been at the forefront of numerous social movements and the urgency of the present moment calls for bold ways of reimagining radically inclusive futures in the midst of an ongoing pandemic. At this town hall, a group of youth organizers shared their experiences working to redefine safety and security by centering the needs of the most impacted communities. By featuring the voices of young people, this town hall deepened our understanding of the possibilities of intergenerational social justice and our collective path forward.
Combating Ableism and Centering Disability Justice
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the passage of the American with Disabilities Act and in July we celebrated Disability Pride Month. As the pandemic continues to have disproportionate impact on people of color and those with disabilities, it is critical that we have ongoing conversations about combating ableism and centering disability justice in this moment and in our movements. We hosted a conversation with organizers and leaders who spoke from their own experiences and laid the groundwork for a path towards liberation that centers those directly impacted.
The Far Right, The Elections, and The Future of Democracy
The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in a surge in anti-Asian racism, which we know is made possible by anti-Blackness and anti-indigeneity, and an opportunity for white nationalists and other far right factions to organize and expand their base. Join a discussion with historians, experts and organizers about what we can expect as we approach the coming presidential election, and what politics might look like in post-COVID America.
Femmes, Mascs and Queers On The Frontlines: The Intersections of Racial, Gender, LGBTQ2IA+ and Disability Justice
As we built on the knowledge that anti-Asian racism is made possible by anti-Blackness and anti-indigeneity, we heard directly from femmes, masc and queers on the frontlines who will make the connection between racism, misogyny, ableism, homophobia and transphobia.
AAPI Educator Strategies for Organizing
AAPI educators and workers in the education ecosystem came together to build community, share challenges regarding racism and reopening schools, and collaborate on organizing strategies through small group discussions.
Difficult Convos with Our Conservative Fathers and Uncles
Hilario Benzon, Manager of the Human and Civil Rights Department for the Center for Social Justice at the National Education Association, led a session to share best practices and lessons learned in having difficult conversations about race and sexual orientation with conservative fathers, uncles and other family members. This was planned during Pride Month and before Father's Day.
Asian American Allies Call with Movement for Black Lives
We co-hosted an urgent zoom meeting on Tuesday 6/16 at 2pm HT/5 PM PT/7pm CT/8 ET to hear from Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) leaders about their call to action and organizing details for a series of mobilizations across the country corresponding with Juneteenth, 6/19-21.
A Townhall on The Roots of Structural Racism, The Impact Under COVID-19 and the Importance of Cross-Racial Solidarity
We facilitated a conversation on racism, COVID-19 and solidarity in the time of a global pandemic by having a group of Asian American and people of color speakers we are in community with during Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. A panel discussion was followed by a healing circle with practices to share as part of Mental Health Awareness Month.
