A Town Hall on Indigenous Rights, Sovereignty, and Self Determination

November is American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month, a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Indigenous People. As we learned from Dr. Connie Wun of AAPI Women Lead, we understand anti-Asian racism is made possible by anti-Blackness and anti-Indigeneity. In our effort to advance justice and liberation, we must center Indigenous rights, sovereignty and self determination. We invite you to join us for the next #BuildingSolidarity Town Hall!

Youth Organizing and Justice: In Our Home, Schools, and Communities

Young people have long been at the forefront of numerous social movements and the urgency of the present moment calls for bold ways of reimagining radically inclusive futurities in the midst of an ongoing pandemic. At this town hall, a group of youth organizers will share their experiences working to redefine safety and security by centering the needs of the most impacted communities. By featuring the voices of young people, this town hall seeks to deepen our understanding of the possibilities of intergenerational social justice and our collective path forward.

3pm-5pm PST
5pm-7pm CST
6pm-8pm EST

The People’s Collective for Justice and Liberation invites you to a Town Hall called Femmes and Queers On The Frontlines.

As we build on the knowledge that anti-Asian racism is made possible by anti-Blackness and anti-indigeneity, we hear directly from femmes and queers on the frontlines who will make the connection between racism, misogyny, ableism, homophobia and transphobia.

During Pride Month, in light of the uprisings in support of the movement for Black lives and the ongoing COVID pandemic, we want to make clear the Intersections of Racial, Gender, LGBTQ2IA+ and Disability Justice.

Join us for a conversation on how we must shift resources away from law enforcement and shelters to community and place based models for justice, liberation and joy. This means we echo the demand to #DefundThePolice and reallocate funds towards education, health, housing, jobs and protecting the environment.

Shining a Light on API Mental Health in the Time of COVID-19

Friday, May 15, 2020

3:00PM - 4:30PM EDT

This is a NAAPIMHA (National Asian American Pacific Islander Mental Health Association) Event

COVID-19 has had a profound impact on the mental health of countless individuals, including Asian Pacific Islanders (API). For some it may spark an old trauma and PTSD associated with being a refugee or immigrant. Some may experience severe depression due to the loss of a  job or isolation from one's support system because of social distancing. However, even worse the stigma that COVID-19 has on APIs has brought on racist attacks triggering emotional trauma for many.

Join this Virtual Roundtable, hosted by NAAPIMHA and Change Matrix in partnership with API organizations across the country, to recognize the importance of demonstrating collective strength, and celebrate the importance of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. With our combined efforts, we hope to reduce the anxiety and mental health stressors associated with COVID-19 in the API communities.

This Virtual Roundtable series will highlight issues associated with COVID-19 in the API  communities, including:

  • The mental health implications for APIs, including the impact of racism

  • The relationship between mental and physical health

  • Strategies to cope with COVID-19 and trauma

  • Creating healthy communities beyond the current pandemic

In Partnership with:

Asian American Psychological Association
Association of Asian Pacific Community Health Organizations
